Anime | 部活
In almost every school anime, someone is running late for club practice. Is school in Japan really like that?
In many ways, yes. The word is bukatsu (部活), short for "club activities."
Clubs are a large part of junior high and high school life. Many students join one and stay for years. A club is seen as a place to learn a skill, and also teamwork, responsibility and manners that help later in life.
In Japan, many of us can still name our club long after our grades are forgotten.
